Dr Christiaan De Beukelaer is a social scientist who ethnographically researches how to rethink and reshape maritime cargo transport – and by extension global trade – to ensure it aligns with a liveable planet. He does so by probing the tensions between the divergent futures that different actors are working towards, in the process of decarbonising the shipping industry. Christiaan is affiliated with Melbourne Climate Futures and is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society. His most recent book, 'Trade Winds: A Voyage to a Sustainable Future for Shipping' (2023), was named a Financial Times notable new book on climate and environment.
